Overview

Come join our team! Now hiring full-time 35 hour/week Teaching Assistant to work with preschool children with autism in a specialized classroom program. Will receive training in using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to support the strengths and needs of autistic students, and will be required to achieve a certain level of proficiency and independence. RBT welcome, supervison available. Will be responsible for working one-on-one with each of six children on a rotating basis, facilitating each child's participation in group activities throughout the day, working on self-help skills including potty training, participating in data collection and analysis, preparing classroom and instructional materials, troubleshooting with the teacher, leading classroom activities when teacher is absent, and participating in ongoing staff training and collaboration. Great opportunity for learning and advancement. No experience with autistic individuals required, but experience with ABA preferred. A love of children and an openness to learning are musts.

Pay Rate $17.25. 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  •  Provide support for the individual children in the assigned classroom as well as for the general needs of the classroom, with the supervision and leadership of the classroom teacher.
  • Povide direct care support to children i.e. toileting, feeding, dressing lifting and positioning
  •  Assist teacher with the program planning and implementation of IEP’s, for the classroom as a whole and/or for an individual child
  •  Review IEP and relevant information concerning the children in the program with the classroom teacher in order to support the implementation of the instructional and social-emotional development of the children
  •  Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team to provide continued support for carry over skill development
  •  Accept feedback/guidance from the classroom teacher and site director
  •  Function effectively as a member of the team through collaboration, utilizing a positive and professional approach
  •  Participate in all appropriate meetings and provide input on classroom children, in addition attend weekly team meetings
  •  Complete personal and program record keeping as assigned
  •  Collect student data as needed
  •  Communicate professionally with families per directions of the classroom teacher
  •  Carry out necessary tasks for keeping the classroom running smoothly in the absence of the special education teacher
  •  Contribute to a positive work and learning environment through professional courteous and confidential behavior
  •  Attend training required by program regulations, including OCFS regulations, and as directed by supervisor
  •  Uphold standards of professionalism with regard to behavior and dress
  •  Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma
  • NY State Ed Teaching Assistant certification or eligible and willing to complete process within 6 months of hire
  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience or training in ABA preferredP
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to physically assist children to participate in the program; ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds; ability to engage in repetitive movements such as sitting/kneeling on floor, bending and stooping; ability to move quickly to attend to a running child. Ability to operate standard office equipment
