Responsibilities

As a Special Education Teacher Aide, your duties will include:

  • Supporting individual children and the overall classroom needs under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
  • Reviewing IEPs and collaborating with the teacher to support children’s instructional and social-emotional development.
  • Assisting children with daily tasks such as toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, and positioning.
  • Observing therapy sessions and ensuring skill development continues within the classroom setting.
  • Maintaining accurate records and completing program-related documentation.
  • Communicating effectively with the team and participating in relevant meetings.
  • Providing ideas and showing initiative to enhance the educational environment.
  • Adhering to professional standards of behavior and dress while contributing to a positive work culture.
  • Attending required training and upholding program regulations.
  • Accept feedback, show initiative, and contribute to the development of the educational setting.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED, fingerprint clearance, and New York State Central Registry clearance.
  • Experience: Must be of 18 years of age with aide experience preferred. 
  • Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with teamwork and organizational abilities.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to physically assist children to participate in the program; ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds; ability to engage in repetitive movements such as sitting/kneeling on floor, bending and stooping; ability to move quickly to attend to a running child.
